Player Biographies: Doug Green, Violin
Doug
Green started playing violin with the Palisades Symphony at the young
age of 70. His earlier gig was as an electrical engineer, with
teaching stints at Purdue and at UCLA but mainly designing
communications satellite systems. He worked on satellites
for DirecTV, XMradio, NASA satellites, and commercial satellites for
Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Sweden, the US and other countries.
Playing with satellites is like playing violin with the Palisades Symphony. First you find the right tone and set up all the rest of the satellite to match that tone, and it’s ready to go. You work with others who make the actions hopefully easy, but sometimes more difficult, and generally you’re happy with the result. And then onto the next satellite, er, concert.
