Susan S. Rosenstein has directed the Brentwood Palisades Chorale since 1987. In addition, she is Music Director at Wilshire Boulevard Temple and Associate Conductor of the SoCal Chorale. She studied Music Education (B.A.), Conducting, and Organ Performance (M.F.A.) at UCLA.
Susan S. Rosenstein, a gifted conductor, accompanist, pianist, organist, and teacher, has enriched the musical life of Los Angeles audiences and performers for over 50 years. Since 1987, she has served as the director of the Brentwood Palisades Chorale, where her upbeat and engaging rehearsals continue to attract both long-time and new members alike.
Susan has conducted and/or taught more than 40 major choral works, including everybody’s favorite requiems (Mozart, Verdi, Brahms, Fauré), oratorios (Handel, Haydn, Bach, Mendelssohn), magnificats (Bach, Rutter), innumerable masses, Karl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, and Ernest Bloch’s Avodath Hakodesh (Sacred Service).
In addition to her work with the Chorale, Susan serves as Music Director at Wilshire Boulevard Temple and Associate Conductor of the SoCal Chorale, collaborating with Mary Lou Basaraba to prepare choirs for performances with the Golden State Pops Orchestra, Los Angeles Film Orchestra, and Culver City/Marina del Rey Symphony. Over the years she has worked with many notable musicians, including Louis Lebherz, Maurita Phillips-Thornburg, Adelaide Sinclair, Dennis Karmazyn, and Danielle deNiese.
Susan earned her B.A., Teaching Credential in Music Education, and M.F.A. in Organ Performance, all from UCLA. Her teachers and mentors have included Lisa Golabek (piano), Carole Keiser (choral teaching), Dr. Thomas Harmon (organ), Donn Weiss and Don Neuen (conducting).
