Every Winter the Palisades Symphony conducts a competition for instrumentalists of middle and high school age from the local area. The winners are given cash prizes and an opportunity to perform a concerto movement with the orchestra.

Year after year, the winners of this competition prove to be amazing performers, and the Palisades Symphony players have found it a great pleasure to serve as the orchestra for their solo appearances.

This year, the performers and their pieces will be:

  • Elliot Yun — Shostakovich, Cello Concerto No. 1 — Movement I
  • Aziliz Pernet — Vivaldi, “Summer” from The Four Seasons
  • Emmanuel Yun — Telemann, Viola Concerto in G major — Movements I–II
  • Avy Tseng — Haydn, Cello Concerto No. 2 — Movement I
  • Ethan Wu — Mendelssohn, Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64 — Movement I
  • Jessie Cai — Sibelius, Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 — Movement I
  • Vivienne Shiao — Mendelssohn, Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64 — Movement III
  • Recrei Park — Rachmaninoff, Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 — Movement I

Over the years, this concert has proven a great favorite with our audiences, who have enjoyed not just outstanding music, but the remarkable virtuosity and vibrant stage presence of our young soloists. Don’t miss it!
